Do you want to develop your research and teaching in an environment where collaboration with industry and society is a natural part of the work? With us, you will collaborate with dedicated colleagues, have access to modern research infrastructure, and enjoy strong opportunities to attract external funding. You will have the space to make a real difference for your students, your research, and society at large.
The Pervasive and Mobile Computing Subject (PMC), in the Department of Computer Science, Electrical and Space Engineering at Luleå University of Technology, is now looking for a Postdoc to contribute to our growing activities. The PMC team conducts fundamental research in mobile and distributed computing, human-computer interaction, and computer networks, applied in the context of smart cities and regions, benefiting both industry and society at large.
Subject description
Pervasive and mobile computing address distributed systems and mobile networks which enable mobility, ubiquity, security and interactivity of computers, data, software and users.
Project description
The position focuses on developing novel QoE models and QoE-aware cloud/edge orchestration mechanisms for the efficient provisioning of cloud-based immersive applications, including extended reality, virtual reality, augmented reality, cloud gaming, and other latency-sensitive interactive services, across heterogeneous access networks such as 5G, 6G, and WiFi. The successful candidate will work on topics such as:
- QoE modelling for immersive and interactive applications
- Cloud–edge continuum orchestration
- Resource allocation for mobile and distributed systems
- QoE-aware service provisioning under heterogeneous network conditions
- Experimental evaluation using testbeds, simulations, and real-world measurements
A key goal of the project is to bridge user-centric QoE assessment with system-level orchestration, enabling intelligent and adaptive provisioning of next-generation immersive applications over mobile and cloud infrastructures.
Duties
As a post-doctoral researcher, you are expected to perform both experimental and theoretical work. Most of your working time will be devoted to your own research but you will also be expected to co-supervise graduate students and collaborate with PhD-students. In addition, you may take part in other teaching activities at the department. A post-doctoral position involves scientific work in the form of publishing scientific articles in journals and presenting at international conferences. A post-doctoral researcher is expected to take significant responsibility for planning and managing their own project.
Qualifications
To be eligible for employment as post doctor you must have a PhD or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD in Computer Science or relevant area. A doctoral degree awarded no more than three years before the application deadline provides a useful qualification. Candidates who have been awarded a doctoral degree at an earlier date may also be considered if there are special grounds, for example, different types of statutory leave of absence.
The position is suitable for candidates with a strong background in distributed systems, mobile computing, cloud/edge computing, networking, QoE/QoS modelling, or immersive media systems.
Potential candidates are expected to have published in top-tier conferences and journals.
Further information
Employment as a post-doctoral researcher is a full-time fixed term employment limited to 2 years. The place of employment is Skellefteå, Sweden.
