Project Manager, Concept development

Scania is undergoing a transformation from being a leading supplier of trucks, buses, and engines to providing complete and sustainable transport solutions. Together with TRATON and our sister brands MAN, Volkswagen Truck & Bus, and International, we are working to shape the future of mobility with innovative and environmentally conscious solutions.

Our values – customer first, respect, team spirit, responsibility, and elimination of waste – are at the heart of everything we do. Together, we are at the forefront of creating a sustainable future.

Role Summary

Are you a leader ready to shape the future of sustainable mobility and contribute to the success of our customers? Do you value supportive colleagues and professional and personal growth? Join our Concept Project Management team, where you will lead concept development projects across hardware, electrical/electronic (E/E), and software (SW) domains.

Job Resposibilities

In this role, you will be the project manager for concept initiatives that span several technical areas. You will also guide initiative leaders in the organization during concept development to ensure deliveries and quality in accordance with our product development process, “One PDP.”

In short:

  • Safeguard bus product requirements—properties, performance, combinatorics, and use cases—in concept development
  • Collaborate closely with portfolio managers to align strategic direction, customer needs, and prioritisation
  • Visualize and communicate project scope, timelines, and milestones
  • Lead cross-functional teams in areas such as vehicle layout, architecture, and design, often in environments with high uncertainty
  • Prepare decision-ready material for senior management
  • Drive process excellence in concept development across the organisation, by providing best practices and guidance

Who You Are

As the projects you will lead span mechanics, electrical/electronics (E/E) and software, a broad technical understanding is essential, with particular depth in E/E and software.

This role operates in a large and complex organization. You need to be comfortable navigating it and have experience delivering strategically important projects in an automotive development context.

You will interact with senior stakeholders on a regular basis. Experience as a manager or senior specialist, in addition to your project leadership background, is a strong foundation for this role.

In concept development, change is a natural part of the work. Scope, timing, and technical direction evolve as solutions are iterated. If you prefer strictly following a fixed plan and find re-planning challenging, this role may not be the right fit.

A concept is not decided based on technical aspects alone, but in alignment with business needs and opportunities. While this role sits within R&D, you need to be able to use business insight alongside your technical expertise.

Concept development is at the forefront of shaping both technology and business. A genuine curiosity and a willingness to think outside the box will benefit both you and the organization.

A strong technical concept fits well within our modular system. Knowledge of the TRATON Modular System (TMS) and ONEPDP is considered a merit.

What matters most is that a successful concept is built on collaboration. You communicate clearly in English, both written and spoken, and you lead in a way that creates alignment, where people take ownership and deliver together.

This Is Us

Scania People Transport Solutions is often described as ‘a company within the company’. We are unique in bringing together R&D, Business Solutions and Sales in one organization, enabling a seamless flow of value from early concept ideas to a well-balanced solution portfolio, supported throughout by customer insight.

Our team covers a range of responsibilities and includes two concept project managers and two colleagues in other roles. Together, we play an important role in coordinating the People Transport platform development organization. Our stakeholders are spread across the broader organization, as well as within Scania and TRATON Group R&D.

Our team’s well-being is built on trust, respect and accountability, and that is also how I lead. In my view, it starts with mutual trust and a high degree of psychological safety, which is the environment I strive to create.
