Doctoral Student in Quantum-Classical Modeling of Multiphase Flows

Keen to push the frontiers of multiphase reactor modeling and accelerate the scale-up of emerging net-zero technologies? Join us at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering! About us  Our research group at the division of Chemistry and Biochemistry advances multiphase flow and separation science to accelerate industrial innovation and implementation. About the research project   This project focuses on the development of quantum–classical modeling strategies for multiphase flow systems. The PhD topic is on exploring how emerging quantum computing methods can be integrated with classical numerical models to improve the simulation of complex multiphase phenomena. The study will combine theory, algorithm development, and computational modeling, with the goal of advancing scalable hybrid approaches for next-generation fluid simulations. Who we are looking for The following requirements are mandatory: • Master's degree (masterexamen) of 120 credits or a Master’s degree (magisterexamen) of 60 credits*  in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, applied mathematics, or a closely related field. • Strong background in computational modeling and numerical methods • Experience with multiphase flow modeling (e.g., TFM, CFD-DEM, DNS, LBM) • Solid programming skills • Experience working in Linux/HPC environments • Ability to conduct independent research and publish in peer-reviewed journals • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English *for students with an education earned outside of Sweden, a 4-year Bachelor’s degree is accepted.  The following experience will strengthen your application:  • Knowledge of quantum computing concepts, quantum algorithms, or quantum-inspired methods • Experience with hybrid quantum–classical algorithms or optimization methods • Background in uncertainty quantification, reduced-order modeling, or machine learning • Experience collaborating in interdisciplinary research teams What you will do • Develop hybrid quantum–classical methods to improve simulation and prediction of multiphase reactors. • Design, implement, and benchmark numerical algorithms  • Run and analyze simulations  • Collaborate across disciplines (e.g., computer science, quantum computing) Contract terms   • The Doctoral student positions are fully funded from start.  • The position is a fixed-term appointment of four years, with the possibility to teach up to 20%, which extends the position up to five years.  • A starting salary of 34,550 SEK per month (valid from May 25, 2025).  • Doctoral studies require physical presence throughout the entire study period. A valid residence permit must be presented by the study start date; otherwise the admission may be withdrawn.  What we offer  • As a Doctoral student at Chalmers, you are an employee and enjoy all employee benefits.
