Senior Site Safety Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Site Safety Engineer to support our Project in Boden, Sweden, and enhance our commitment to a safe, compliant, and proactive work environment.
Job Description
The Senior Site Safety Engineer is responsible for leading site safety activities, including oversight of subcontractors performing mechanical and electrical work. This role provides daily field engagement and inspection, ensures compliance with project safety requirements, and serves as the primary lead for the Site Safety Inspectors. The Senior Site Safety Engineer will act as the Site Safety Manager’s delegate when required, providing team leadership and decision-making support to maintain safe operations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Oversight
- Provide day-to-day direction, mentorship, and performance oversight of Site Safety Inspectors.
 - Serve as the acting Site Safety Manager during absences, ensuring continuity of leadership and authority.
 - Support development and implementation of site safety policies and standards in alignment with Aquatech and client requirements.
 - Foster a proactive safety culture through field presence, coaching, and engagement.
 
Field Safety Compliance & Monitoring
- Oversee subcontractors engaged in mechanical and electrical work to ensure compliance with applicable project specifications and regulatory requirements.
 - Conduct routine field inspections, hazard assessments, and work activity observations.
 - Anticipate and mitigate hazards through Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Task-Based Risk Assessments, and Safe Work Permits.
 - Immediately identify and communicate unsafe conditions, including recommending or issuing work stoppages (“HOLDs”) when necessary.
 
Incident Response & Reporting
- Lead or support investigations related to accidents, incidents, and near misses; determine root causes and corrective actions.
 - Ensure closure of identified safety discrepancies and rework items.
 - Prepare and submit daily inspection reports documenting conditions, corrective actions, and relevant site communications.
 
Training, Communication & Stakeholder Interface
- Lead site safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety committee meetings (SAFCOM).
 - Provide safety training and onboarding for craft and subcontractor personnel.
 - Coordinate safety communications with the client, Aquatech corporate personnel, and subcontractor teams.

Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to direct personnel and influence safe behaviors.
 - Highly organized with strong record-keeping discipline.
 - Proficient using computers and digital reporting tools in field environments.
 - Ability to work independently and make safety-critical decisions confidently.
 
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 20 kg.
 - Capable of climbing ladders, entering confined spaces, and working at heights.
 - Must wear appropriate PPE while on site.
 - Ability to maintain focus in a dynamic and active construction environment.
 - Work may involve exposure to varying weather conditions.
