Department of Animal Biosciences Arctic charr is a key species for Swedish aquaculture with great potential for further expansion. Nevertheless, the highly variable reproductive success in captivity is a major bottleneck for the expansion of the industry. Particularly, a significant gap of knowledge remains regarding the genetics controlling male fertility. Over the last years our group has recorded male fertility proxies using computer assisted sperm analysis on over 1,000 males from the national Swedish breeding program. A two-year postdoc position is available for investigating the underlying genetic factors of male fertility in Arctic charr. About the position The work in the project includes the following tasks:
• Nucleic acid extraction and optimization of existing protocol • Preparation of libraries for high-throughput sequencing • Bioinformatic and genetic analysis • Present main findings in national and international conferences • Preparation of scientific articles • Contribute to public engagement and / or knowledge exchange events, to promote awareness of research findings among the general public.
Your profile Essential:
• PhD in genetics, bioinformatics or similar • Experience with bioinformatic analysis • Experience in molecular biology lab methods • Solid understanding of animal breeding theory • Ability to communicate complex concepts effectively both orally and in writing in English
Desirable:
• Preparation of high-throughput sequencing libraries • Experience in working with high-throughput sequencing datasets • Experience with genome-wide association studies
A position as a postdoctor is intended for a researcher early in their career, we are therefore primarily looking for candidates who completed their doctoral degree no more than three years ago.
The position will be offered to the candidate that after a qualitative assessment is deemed to be the most suitable to perform and develop the project tasks as well as contributing to a positive development of the subject area.

These areas include anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, toxicology, genetics, breeding, immunology, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, epizootology, comparative medicine, food safety, bioinformatics, and One Health. Our research covers everything from production animals to sport and companion animals, laboratory animals, and wild animals. The department's researchers work on the entire scale, from molecular mechanisms and microbiology to the structure, function, and behaviour of animals and how these are affected by breeding, physical activity, care, production, stress, environmental factors, and diseases.
